Dr. Guess says, “Like many veterinarians, I wanted to be a vet since I can remember. Growing up, I loved reading and James Herriot was my inspiration. I went into vet school wanting to do mixed animal practice. I always thought I was a dog person. I was allergic to cats and never owned any growing up. After graduation, I received allergy shots and was adopted by some cats. Then I attended an event lead by Dr. Sophia Yin, which made me interested in cat behavior along with low-stress handling techniques. I came to understand cats better, which made me fall in love with them. Now I have been completely converted into a cat person. I think cats are misunderstood and intriguing creatures. I love how they can be simultaneously majestic and ridiculous at the same time.”
