Ultrasound
A non-invasive way to diagnose sick & injured cats.
We offer ultrasounds for cats performed by our trained and highly-skilled veterinary staff. Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique used to diagnose sick and injured animals.
How does ultrasound work?
After the sound waves penetrate the body, they hit various structures inside the body and then bounce back to the sensor. The ultrasound machine measures the strength of the reflected sound wave and the time it takes for a sound wave to bounce back and creates an image.
What conditions can be diagnosed by ultrasound?
Some injuries and conditions that can be identified via ultrasound include:
- Bladder and kidney stones
- Gastrointestinal thickening and obstructions
- Enlarged abdominal lymph nodes
- Enlargement of the spleen, liver, or kidneys
- Free fluid in the abdomen or chest
- Fluid in the lungs
- Pregnancy
- Cysts and tumors
- Heart conditions
Ultrasound also allows us to safely collect tissue and fluid samples without having to perform invasive surgeries.
Ultrasounds are painless, non-invasive, and often don’t require any form of anesthesia. The most your furry friend will need to worry about is getting a patch of their hair shaved prior to the procedure. Don’t worry it will grow back!
If your cat is showing signs of illness or injury, call us at (614) 486-7877 to schedule an appointment. An ultrasound may be able to assist in diagnosing the problem.
