Hello to all of my feline admirers! I’ve seen quite a few of you at Purrfect Care recently and I’ve especially appreciated the holiday goodies. Our humans have been enjoying the treats from your owners too! They don’t like to share with me – something about sugar and chocolate not being good for cats. I think it’s a lie so they can eat all the best gifts.
The 2016 year has been my best year yet (I’m inside where it’s warm! I get lots of treats! I sneak lots of treats!), so here are a few of my favorites from this great year.
1. C.J. (Carl Junior)
I try not to be the sentimental type, but sometimes I can’t help myself. Since it’s the end of the year, I’ll allow myself this one mushy moment. This handsome guy has been the best thing to happen to me this year. His name is C.J. and he is adorable.
How do you resist that? He’s my adopted brother (and look-a-like), housemate and partner in crime. He’s the social butterfly to my introverted nature. He likes to rough house when I need to feel like a mighty cat, but he’ll seek out the humans when I need a rest. You couldn’t find a better cat to have as a friend.
I’ve even taught him to cross his legs as all tuxedo gentlemen need to do. I get a little choked up at his aptitude.
And that’s enough of that sentimentality…
2. Sleeping
I did this like a champ this year! Especially now that C.J. entertains the humans, I can wander off and find a quiet place to spend my time. My favorite place to nap is the staff break room on a towel. If I’m feeling social I take a nap on the front desk, but greeting the humans is C.J.’s favorite job. As a kind brother, I don’t want to take over.
Just looking at this makes me a little tired, but I will push on and finish my list for my devoted fans.
3. Eating
It is true. I love food, all kinds of food, and I’ll do anything for treats. If the humans aren’t watching, I quickly jump on the table, grab what I want and disappear. They catch me most times and take my prize, but sometimes I am successful.
All of this stolen food is becoming very apparent on my abdomen, which means I, handsome Carl Cat, have a New Year’s resolution of losing weight. There are no words to express my sadness. And you, Kitty Admirer, also may be on a diet. I hear Dr. Cohn tell your humans that some of you need to lose a few pounds. Please know that I feel your pain. We are in this together now.
4. Playing
It’s C.J.’s favorite pastime too! When I was living my tough life on the streets, I didn’t get to play. This little kitten has taught me the joy of chasing a ball from one end of the hallway to the other. One of our favorite toys is this light up toy ball (shown above at my feet). The LED lights are mesmerizing!
This is my most favorite toy and has been since I first laid eyes on it this past summer. I have a few of these fish toys that I hide/knock under shelves, boarding condos and hidey holes. The staff loves the game. It is good enrichment for the humans. You know we need to keep them on their toes.
I realize this is a caring tip that many of you cats know, but just in case you kittens don’t know, the humans love the hide-and-go-seek game with your toys. Just hide the toys in the darkest, hardest to reach place you can find and watch them search. They will be on their hands and knees, lifting furniture, shouting loudly – they love it! Play it often!
Even C.J. enjoys the hide-and-seek game from time to time. Look at his joy – what a kitten!
5. Watching the birds, people and cars
When I’m not sleeping in the break room or at the front desk (and if the boarding room is open), I enjoy watching the birds and cars. To make it more comfortable, the humans set up a chair with a soft towel for me to view my prey. During these cold days, they move the chair near the heating vent, so I can stay toasty warm as I chirp at the birds. They are good humans. I steal their food and they still give me the royal treatment. They are keepers.
With that, my 2016 ‘favorites’ list is complete. What are some of your favorite feline highlights from 2016? Let me know on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!
